Researchers at the University of Endinburgh said that they identified close to 300 genetic regions tied to baldness. Before this latest study, only a handful of genes have been identified. The research team looked at more than 52,000 men and were able to pinpoint the genetic regions that were linked to severe hair loss.
The study is led by Dr. Ricardo Marioni, who reminded everyone that a cure for hair loss is still a long way away, but this study would help future researchers a place to start when developing new drugs and treatments for hair loss. According the Marioni,” the findings pave the way for an improved understanding of genetic causes of hair loss.”
